Clinical Research Education Programs in Canada
Humber College – The Clinical Research certificate of achievement was developed in response to a growing need in the health industries (pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device companies, research institutes and hospitals) involved in the development of new drugs and therapies. The program is dedicated to training students in conducting clinical trials, specifically, conducting experiments on humans with new drugs/therapies before these are introduced to the market.
Michener College -The Clinical Research Graduate Certificate program is an online program that responds to the needs of the rapidly expanding field of Clinical Research, creating exciting opportunities for trained professionals. Each of the 4 courses consists of 48 credit hours for a total of 192 credit hours.
McMaster University – The Clinical Research Associate (CRA) program, offered by McMaster University Continuing Education and affiliated with the Faculty of Health Sciences, is designed to develop the concepts, skills, strategies, attitudes and knowledge required to perform clinical trials.
Seneca College – The Clinical Research program will provide you with knowledge and insight into the most recent developments in the clinical research field. You will learn current research design concepts, analysis and quality assurance of the day-to-day operations in clinical trials. You will study clinical studies across the pharmaceutical, medical device and natural health product sectors that will give you that competitive edge in this dynamic industry of hospital research centers and clinical research organizations. As a student in this program you will benefit from a co-op work term where you will put your studies into practice, work alongside industry professionals and develop a network of industry contacts ahead of graduation.
Academy of Applied Pharmaceutical Sciences (AAPS) – The Clinical Research, Drug Safety and Pharmacovigilance Diploma program is designed to develop specialized knowledge and skills required to design and write study protocols, monitor and manage clinical trials and to conduct drug safety and Pharmacovigilance activities including adverse reaction reporting and preparing periodic safety update reports. The program focuses on the global healthcare system as well as the Canadian healthcare system, Canadian regulatory agencies, health care legislation, international guidelines, and standard operating procedures (SOP). Using practical and current real cases, AAPS integrates a unique approach and provides students with the foundation and practical knowledge to formulate a sound clinical development plan; ensure clinical trial data is credible and accurate; and that the rights, integrity and confidentiality of trial subjects are protected.
Mohawk College – The program is designed to support development as effective research administrators, providing opportunities to learn new skills and knowledge and to gain credit and recognition for new and existing skills.
Certification Programs offered worldwide
SoCRA certification program – Clinical Research Professionals (CRPs) come from a wide variety of backgrounds. CRPs may have backgrounds in nursing, pharmacy, medical technology, business administration, health record maintenance, statistics, biology, teaching, or in other areas. CRPs work in various settings such as cooperative research groups; academic and private institutions; private offices; pharmaceutical, device, and biotechnology companies; Clinical Research Organizations (CROs); Site Management Organizations (SMOs); independent research and development organizations; or organizations involved in the management of clinical trials. These varying backgrounds and settings contribute to the unique knowledge and diverse expertise of CRPs.
ACRP certification program – ACRP Certification is the formal recognition of clinical research professionals who have demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform ethical and responsible clinical research by passing one of three role-specific certification exams based on international standards.
